QUICK HISTORY
Zamfara state was one of the old Hausa city-states Dutsi is believed to have been the first capital of Zamfara. The capital city has changed over time and was once located at Birnin Zamfara. In the first half of the 18th century,Birnin Zamfara, was destroyed by the Gobir Kingdom and a new capital arose in Anka. Zamfara became part of the Sokoto Caliphate in 1804 following the jihad by Usman dan Fodio.

The colonial era and the arrival of the British saw the importance of Gusau changing. Gusau became an important commercial and administrative center with road and rail networks. Zamfara would become first part of the North West state and later Sokoto State, before becoming a state in its own right on October 1st 1996.
